SAILING INSTRUCTIONS (in accordance with RRS Appendix J2)
Races in this series will be governed by the rules as defined in
The Racing Rules of Sailing, RYA Racing Charter & by the WWYC winter series committee.
1.
Race 1 – Sunday 16th October. Start 11.00hrs LW 11.14 hrs. North Fambridge. BST.
Race 2 – Sunday 30th October. Start 11.00hrs HW 15.46 hrs. Note: Handicap review.
Race 3 – Sunday 13th November. Start 11.00hrs HW 15.24 hrs. Note: Handicap review. UTC.
Race 4 – Sunday 27th. November. Start 11.00hrs HW 14.55 hrs. Note: Handicap review.
Possible race if demand justifies.
Race 5 – Sunday 11th December Start 11.00hrs HW 14.33 hrs.
2. Warning signal – 10minutes . Preparatory signal – 5minutes before the start.
Starting signal approximately 11.00 hrs. This changes RRS 26.
3. Courses will be selected from WWYC issue Ver 4 course card
Race control VHF ch 37a.
4. The starting line
Will be selected from the following options on race day.
Option 1.
The WWYC start/ finish line A. (shown on the course card ).
A transit line from the “Reception hut flag pole to a flag pole on the West corner of the tender park, adjacent to the Yacht station hammer head.
Option 2. WWYC start line B. . (shown on the course card ).
A line, South of the Committee boat which will be at anchor displaying a WWYC flag,
East of Nth. Fambridge moorings or by the race officer on the North bank in a transit
with the mid channel 8 knot marker buoy and to the South bank sea wall.
It is not permissible to pass North of the committee boat when it is at anchor.
The finish line is as follows.
The WWYC start/ finish line A. (shown on the course card ).
A transit line from the “Reception hut flag pole to a flag pole on the West corner of the tender park, adjacent to the Yacht station hammer head.
5. The time limit for all races will be 15.00hrs, then competitors will time themselves in and
hand their result to the Race Officer.

6. Competitors will race to the WWYC Winter series local handicap system version 1 2022.
7. RRS 77 Identification on Sails will not be applicable. However boat identification is valid and should be placed on the entry form.
8. RRS 26 Starting Races is changed and replaced by Sailing Instruction 8.
Races will be started by sound signals. Warning 10 minutes, Preparatory 5 minutes and Starting signal (air horn ) plus lowering of the reception hut flag.
There will be no visual signals when using start line B.
9. (a). If a boat racing is deemed to have compromised the safety of the Committee Boat or its crew the Race Committee may act under RRS 60.2 (c) or the Protest Committee may act under RRS 60.3 (a)(1).
(b). A boat racing is not permitted to run its engine unless in compliance with RRS 42.3 (f).
A boat that uses her engine must retire and inform the Race Officer.
(c). The Race Committee will abandon racing if wind strength is forecast at FORCE 7 or above prior to racing. This changes RRS 27.3. Abandoned races will not be rescheduled.
10. There will be 1 class of sailing cruisers racing to WWYC local handicap.
11. The low points system for each race is awarded as follows.
Race winner 1 point, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 3 points, and pro rata to the last boat finishing.
Retirement number of starter plus 1 point. (RTD)
Did not start, number of boats starting plus 10 points. (DNS).
All races to count from 4 races
12. Notices to Competitors will be posted in the River Breeze cafe & carried on the committee boat/ race hut.

13. Courses may be shortened at a mark of the course by the race officer on VHF ch 37a.
There will be no flag signals.
14. Protest forms will be available from the Race Officer and times and place of hearing
notified to the parties of that protest.
Time limit for acceptance of protests is 2hrs from the last boat to finish the race.
15. Race results and presentations will be held at the river Breeze cafe, The Marina,
From 14.00 hrs onward.
